LUND UNIVERSITY CASE

A five-level learning sequence for 101 students

Students worked in groups of three. The first simulation level was completed in a classroom session; Levels 2–5 were then completed independently.

In this implementation, students spent approximately 60 minutes per level. Planning took most of the time, and groups used Excel to plan purchasing, stock levels and deliveries.

A staged route from guidance to independence

The Lund example combined an instructor-supported starting point with progressively independent work.

Guided classroom start

Students completed Level 1 in a classroom session, creating a shared introduction to the simulation and its decision process.

Independent progression

Students completed Levels 2–5 independently after the initial classroom activity.

Collaborative planning

Groups of three used Excel to plan purchasing, stock levels and deliveries before making simulation decisions.

Implementation detail: The approximately 60-minute duration reported here reflects this Lund course activity, including substantial planning time; ChainSim’s ready-made courses are generally designed for approximately 45-minute class activities.
